In March 2022, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released a report titled “Towards a Standard for Identifying and Managing Bias in Artificial Intelligence”. With the permission of NIST, we have translated the key points into Japanese and published them on our engineering blog.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), founded in 1901, is one of the oldest physical science laboratories in the United States and is a leading research institute in the measurement and standardization of a variety of scientific and technological fields.
From smart power grids and electronic medical records to atomic clocks, countless products and services rely in some way on the technologies, measurements, and standards provided by NIST. In Japan, NIST is best known for its guidelines in the area of information security.
With permission from NIST, we have summarized the key points of the report “Towards a Standard for Identifying and Managing Bias in Artificial Intelligence“, translated it into Japanese, and published it as three articles on our engineering blog.
The NIST report states that in order to identify and manage the harmful effects of bias and develop reliable AI systems, a “socio-technical perspective” is important, paying attention to the social, organizational, and human factors and backgrounds involved in the development and use of AI, in addition to the technical validation of the machine learning process and training data.
We would like to express our appreciation to NIST for their kind permission to translate this article into Japanese on our engineering blog.
The selection of excerpts for the Japanese translation is based solely on our own judgment and responsibility and does not represent the intent of NIST.
